Elsie Ella Walker, the firstborn child of Samuel Nathaniel "Sam" Walker (1869-1957) and Hattie Mae "Harriett" (Moyers) Walker (1876-1918), would soon live in a house full of siblings after her birth in 1894. She was not only the oldest child of the couple, but would live the longest and be the last to die in February 1992 at age 97.

Elsie joined a religious group at about age 16, never married nor had children, and spent her life doing work for her religious community, living in a number of states throughout the Midwest and Great Plains.

The Grinnell Herald-Register, February 20, 1992; Grinnell, Poweshiek County, Iowa:

Elsie E. Walker, 97, of Marshalltown died Monday, February 17 (1992), at Marshalltown Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with Dean Swenson and Vernon Spinner officiating. Organist will be Ruth Topinka, and pallbearers will be Jeff Evans, Wayne House, Dean Klenk, Eugene Shepard, Richard Byviral, and John Wilson. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The daughter of Samuel and Hattie Movers (sic) Walker, she was born August 18, 1894, in Wapello. She received her education in that community.

In 1914 she entered the ministry and served in Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Missouri. She moved to Marshalltown in 1982.

Surviving are two sisters, Marjorie Kimble of Morning Sun and Viola Van Houten of Corpus Christi, Texas, and one brother, Robert of Victoria, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, George Clifford, Ross, Sam, Paul, and William; and four sisters, Myrtle, Leota, Ruth, and Maude.
