George enlisted into the Confederate Army on May 27, 1861. He was mustered in as a private into Company I of the 10th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment. During his service, he was wounded. On April 6, 1865, he was captured at Farmville, Prince Edward, Virginia, and released at Point Lookout, MD, on June 24, 1865. George married Susan Elizabeth Collins on December 19, 1867, in Spalding, Spalding County, GA.
