Caroline was born in New Mark, Germany on Sept 3, 1849. At the age of 5 years she came to America with her parents, settling in Watertown, Wisc. In March of 1869, she married John Gessert and gave birth to 5 children, 3 of whom survive- Mrs. Herman Bublitz, Ferd Gessert of Edgerton and John Gessert of Watertown. In 1880 John Gessert died.
On June 18, 1885 she was second married to Ludwig Schachtschneider where the couple made their home on his farm located east of Edgerton. To them 5 children were born Henry and Arthur at home and Louis, Herbert and Sidonia, wife of Herman Venske of Edgerton. Besides the husband and children, 14 grandchildren are left to mourn.
