Andrew L. Foster, 71, of Grant and formerly of Petoskey, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, with his loving wife in his arms and surrounded by his loving family. He passed away at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids.

Andrew was born on April 18, 1941, in Petoskey, to Joseph and Jenny (Griffin) Foster, and worked as a Hi-Lo operator for General Motors Fisher Body plant No. 2 in Walker, retiring in 1997 after 30 years of service.

IN 1962, he married Patricia Rohloff in Grand Rapids, and she preceded him in death in 1987. He later married Betty Stray, Sept. 16, 1988, at the Marne United Methodist Church, and they have celebrated 23 years together.

Following his retirement from General Motors, Andrew and Betty lived in Petoskey until recently moving back to Grant.

Andrew loved classic cars, and through the years was a member of four different car clubs. He could often be found tinkering around his home, working on a car, or in the garage, and cherished every moment he could spend with his beloved family. His great sense of humor and outlook on life was a gift his family will share for many years.

In addition to his first wife, Patricia, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Leo, Arthur and James, and his sisters, Agnes and Pat.

Andrew will be greatly missed by his wife, Betty; his son, Michael Foster Sr., of Metairie, La.; his daughters, Margie Wahlfield of Coopersville, Julie Foster of Standale, Rebecca (John) Duda of San Antonio, Texas, and Jessica (Simon) Foster of Crystal Lake, Ill.; his stepdaughters, Brenda (James) Shepard and Jill (Dave) Brown, all of Petoskey, and Kathy (Greg) Bunker of Indian River; 26 grandchildren, with one more arriving soon; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Pennell, of Petoskey; his many nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral service for Andrew will be 3 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the Grant Reformed Church, with pastor Mick Sutton officiating. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church.

Those who wish to make memorial contributions in Andrew's memory are asked to consider the Fremont Foundation -- Brianna Joy Nelson Scholarship, the AutismSpeaks.org Foundation, or to the Meijer Heart Center at Spectrum Health.
