Gilford H. "Gil" Bennett, 76, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. James United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bernie Colorado officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Bennett was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Artesian, S.D., the son of Julius Medford and Martha Louise (Sprick) Bennett. He moved to Sioux City at the age of 4 and graduated from East High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, during World War II.

He met Joyce L. Janson during choir at St. James United Methodist Church, and on April 30, 1950, they married at the church. He worked for 15 years at KVTV Channel 9 from the time it started. He was a production supervisor when he left. He owned and operated Bennett Vending. He worked for Harrington and Associates (real estate) and in 1991, he helped form Associated Appraisers of Siouxland, retiring in 1995.

He was a very active member of St. James United Methodist Church and was instrumental in getting the current sound system installed in the church. He also was a member of American Legion Morningside Post 697. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed traveling south in the winter to Tucson, Ariz., in their RV.

Survivors omitted per Find a Grave policy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Tiny Tim Bennett.

Memorials may be directed to St. James United Methodist Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
