Clifford N. Altwies, 96, of Johnson Creek, was called home on Friday, 4 April 2014 at Sylvan Crossing in Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 8th at noon at St. John's Lutheran Church, 129 Watertown Street in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin with the Rev. Matthew Smith-Laubenstein, officiating. Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. If desired, memorials may be directed to the church, Rainbow Hospice, or to the charity of one's choice. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Clifford Nelson Altwies was born in Farmington on 19 November 1917, the 3rd son of Henry Claude Altwies and Lillie Henrietta Louise (Error name is Lillian Bertha Friedericka) (Gruennert) Altwies. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Helenville by Rev. Frederick. Rev. Frederick also married Clifford and the former June Helen Knop at St. Peter's Church on 2 March 1938.
Clifford was a dairy farmer and carpenter for many years. He worked at Brandt's for 30 years, and also at Jefferson Junction. He was a member of church council and he tolled the bell for services and funerals at St. John's Lutheran Church. There, he used his passion of woodworking to help remodel the church on several occasions. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. He loved watching the Packers and Brewers. Most of all, Clifford treasured spending time with his family.
Clifford is survived by his wife June; five daughters; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, a sister; a brother, Wesley Altwies; sisters-in-law Irene Kasmiskie, Merla Stark, and Shirley Baumann; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son Allen, brothers, Warren, Russel, Allen, Lyle, Archie, and Marvin; sisters, Muriel, Marilyn, (error name is Marlyn) and Joyce; sons-in-law, Merlyn Seitz and Richard Habermann.
The family would like to thank Sunset Ridge in Johnson Creek, Rainbow Hospice, and Sylvan Crossing in Jefferson for the tender care they provided Clifford and his family.
