Altwies, Gun Victim, Goes to Madison. Accidental Shot Shatters Bone.
Warren Maynard Altwies, 49, route 3, who was shot in the head by a .22 rifle he was carrying when he stumbled against a tractor on his farm last Friday, was transferred to a Madison hospital yesterday afternoon for additional surgery and treatment. He had been at Watertown Memorial Hospital since the accident.
His condition was listed as fairly good. In a report of the accident last week, the Times stated that he was expected to be transferred to Madison on Monday after receiving all possible preliminary treatment here.
The bullet entered near the right temple, splintered a bone and sent a small splinter of it through the top of his head. A large fragment remained under the main bone and this is due to be removed at Madison.

Funeral services for Warren Altwies, 68, of R3, Watertown, will be held Wednesday at 2 P.M. at St Peter's Lutheran Church in Helenville with the Rev Harry Wiedmann officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Helenville.
Altwies was dead on arrival Monday at St Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee following an apparent heart attack at General Billy Mitchell Field in Milwaukee. He was born 16 November 1914 in the town of Farmington, son of the late Mr and Mrs H. Claude Altwies. He farmed all of his life in the Watertown area and worked at Waukesha Motors and Brandt Inc., until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of St Peter's Lutheran Church in Helenville and Machinist Union 1376.
Survivors include 2 sisters, Mrs Theodore (Joyce) Siewert of Sussex and Mrs Wayne Hale of Watertown, 2 brothers, Clifford and Wesley, both of Watertown. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
