OLATHE - Leola J. Shank, 73,
died April 5, 1995, at Olathe Medical
Center.
She was born June 26, 1921, at
Bison, the daughter of Samuel and
Elizabeth Appel Schwindt. A 1939
graduate of Bison High School, she
worked as a cook in the Bison
schools from 1940 to 1966. An Olathe
resident since 1966, she worked
in the central kitchen as a floor
supervisor for the Olathe school
district for more than 20 years,
retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the United
Methodist Church, Bison.
On Aug. 17, 1940, she married
Lee E. Shank at Larned. He survives.
Other survivors include: three
sons, Dennis L., Goodland, Duane
D., Stillwater, Okla., and Dale E.,
Olathe; a daughter, Deanne Ficken,
Bison; two sisters, Luella Ressig,
Wichita, and Velma Kober, La
Crosse; 12 grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday at the United Methodist
Church, Bison, with Pastor Sue
Bateman presiding.
Janousek Funeral Home, La
Crosse. Burial will be in La Crosse
City Cemetery. Memorials may be sent
to Hospice of Olathe Medical Center,
or to the church, both in care of the
funeral home.

On August 17, 1940, Lee Shank married Leola J. Schwindt of Bison at Larned, Kansas. To this union was born three sons and two daughters, Dennis L. Shank, and his wife, Gaylene, of Goodland, Kansas, Duane D. Shank of Stillwater, Okla., Dale E. Shank, and his wife, Lorrie, of Basehor, Kan; one daughter, Deanne Lynn Ficken, and her husband, John, Bison, Kan; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren. Leola died April 5, 1995.
She was preceded by one infant daughter, Katherine Kay Shank.
