Our earliest known ancestor was Stokley (Stahley B.) Finnacom. He was born, according to the census, ca 1818, in Maryland. He moved to Washington D.C. as early as 1840 and stayed there the remainder of his life. He married, by license issued 26 August 1846, in Washington D.C., Mary Elizabeth Fletcher, who was born 15 October 1834, in Montgomery county, Maryland. Stokley was a shoemaker and in 1860 operated a shop at 105 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington D.C. He lived at 204 20th Street W. In 1862 his shop was located at 206 I St. N. He kept this shop until 1865, when he moved his shop to his home. By 1885, he had moved to 1241 20th St. NW where he died. His wife, Mary was listed in 1885, in the city directory, as a seamstress. Stokley died at his home, 7 August 1893. He had suffered from Epilepsy for 18 years and died of a stroke. His death certificate says that he was born in VA, and that both parents were born in VA and that he was 75 years old and had lived in Washington DC for 50 years. There was not a spot for the names of parents in the death certificate. His wife, Mary, died 27 January 1892 of pneumonia. They are both buried in Rock Creek Cemetery. (Section B, Lot 68)
