BURIED 14 SEPTEMBER 1954, ST. MICHAEL'S (CATHOLIC) CEMETERY, SPRINGFIELD, MA. - Joe was 1st born of 11 known children of Francois Xavier "Oliver" Poirier aka Peach & Emma Delima Durocher. He worked for the railroad most of his life. He worked his way up from a train fireman to an engineer, specializing in transporting danger explosive materials, liquids, and gases. He covered most of Eastern US and was gone days to a few weeks at a time. The absences took it's toll on his marriages. He married Margaret S. Connors, daughter of Martin Connors & Hannah Lally, in Springfield on 1st October 1909 and a son Leonard Francis Peach was born 7 July 1910 in Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. A daughter Shirley H. Peach was born 27 November 1915 in Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire who ran away as a teenager and disappeared despite all attempts to locate her. She was never heard from again. The marriage ended in divorce. Joe remarried on 14 November 1936 in Craftsbury, Orleans County, Vermont to Catherine Ester Norton, daughter of Michael Norton and Anna Louise Gordon. This marriage also ended in divorce. Joe and his caboose man were hauling dangerous explosive to New York on 31 October 1943 when the train was derailed by boys placing rocks on the track. Explosions and fire consumed both the train and homes along the track. Various newspaper articles and photo appeared in Springfield, Mass. Republican and NY Times Newspaper 2-4 November 1943. Joe was pulled from the burning cab by his caboose man who saved his life. He recovered and soon returned to work after time off visiting each of his family members and reflecting on his mortality. He eventually retired after going deaf and lived out the rest of his life with his widowed sisters, Emma & Lottie, in Springfield.
