Eric Shively, age 62, passed away June 18, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 5, 1949 in Canton, OH, grew up in Minerva, OH, where he graduated from Minerva High School as a National Merit Scholar and Class Valedictorian. He and his wife Louise met in graduate school, married in 1976 and celebrated 33 years of marriage.
He graduated at the top of his class with a Bachelor's degree from Mount Union College having majored in English. He also earned a Master's degree in English from The Ohio State University, where he was granted a teaching Fellowship.
Eric was preceded in death by
his beloved wife, Louise Hock Shively;
parents, Frederick and Olive (White) Shively;
sister, Ramona and brother, Gary Shively.
He is survived by
his son and daughter-in-law, [living names redacted]; daughter and son-in-law, [redacted];
grandson, [redacted];
brother, Fred Shively;
uncle, Roger (Arlene) Shively;
many cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Eric was a marketing and communications professional with Chemical Abstracts Service retiring after over 30 years of service in 2009. Eric had a sharp sense of humor, was a lifelong learner and an excellent writer. He was an extremely devoted husband and father besides being a friend to many. Eric was a reader and writer of poetry, non-fiction and Mark Twain books. Eric was known for his kindness to others and humble nature. He always said "Everyone has a story to tell and everyone appreciates a good joke".
