Allie Velma "Sis" Sharp was born in the now ghost town of "Mayer", eighteen miles southeast of Eldorado, in southeastern Schleicher County, Texas on February 3, 1902 to Hiram Edward II and, Alice Gertrude "Allie" (Conner) Sharp. At it's peak around 1914, Mayer had a Post Office, one General Store and a population of 190. Hiram & Allie Sharp with their six children owned and operated the General Store. At 20 years of age Velma married William Edwin Delong in Brady, Texas August 20, 1922. Together they enjoyed 54 years of marriage before Edwin passed away in 1977. Allie Velma Delong, passed away December 23, 1991 in San Augustine, Texas. She was 89 years old.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram & Allie Sharp. Her husband William Edwin "Ed" DeLong. Her brothers, Quinn Milton Sharp and Hiram Edwin Sharp Jr, Her sister Ella Mae Sharp Miller. And her son William Edwin DeLong Jr. Velma was survived by Her Brother Alfred Vernon Sharp, sister Lois Alma Sharp Etheredge, and children Dorothy Jean Rice, Robert and Ronnie.
