Alfred Vernon Sharp was born in the now ghost town of "Mayer", eighteen miles southeast of Eldorado, in southeastern Schleicher County, Texas on March 9, 1914 to Hiram Edward II and, Alice Gertrude "Allie" (Conner) Sharp. At it's peak in 1914, Mayer had a Post Office, one General Store and a population of 190. Hiram & Allie Sharp with their six children owned and operated the General Store. Alfred fell in love and married Miss Juanita Brown. Together they had daughters Annita and Betty. Alfred passed away October 25, 1993 and his lovely wife Juanita followed him in death March 4, 2002.
