James Thomas Shelten, eldest of ten children, born March 15 1888 to Mary Charlotta Allen and Joseph Sylvester Shelten of Gerstner, Missouri, died on May 27 1968, at his home in Creighton at the age of 80.

He became a member of the North Methodist Church at Garden City in 1918, and later moved his membership to the Creighton United Methodist Church.

He leaves his wife, Amanda May Shelten, of the home, a son, James A. Shelten and daughter-in-law, Lucille, of Creighton. Two daughters; Rachel O'Bannon of Overland Park, Kans., and Alma Still of Creighton, five grandchildren: Garey O'bannon and wife Kay of Hustonia, Ray Pullen and wife Lorene of Kingsville; Mrs. Ed (LaDOn) Brennan and husband of Syracuse, NY; Mrs. Ray (Karen) Heidebrecht and husband of Topeka, Kans, and Susan Kay Still of Creighton. Four brothers and their wives: Mr. and Mrs. Orlie Shelten, Mr. and Mrs. Dolsie Shelten, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Shelten, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Shelten; Five sisters; Mrs. Leona Baxter and husband of Calipatria CA, Mrs. Vangy Murphy of Holden, Mrs. Elva Strahan and husband, Mrs. Nola Cauthon and husband of Weaubleau and Mrs. Emma Rena of Wheatland. He has five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

His father, mother, a son-in-law, Bruce Still, and a grandson, Billy Joe Still, preceded him in death.

Services were held at the Creighton United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 29, Rev. Karl Kennedy officiated. Burial was at the Garden City Cemetery.
