Alma Marie Sloan of Wichita, Kansas formerly of Creighton, Missouri was born February 24, 1911 in Gerster, Missouri the daughter of James Thomas and Amanda M. (Stoll) Shelten. She departed this life on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Cypress Springs Wichita Alzheimers and Memory Support in Wichita surrounded by love and family at the age of 103 years, 10 months and 25 days.
Alma was united in marriage to Bruce Still in 1935 and later married Sam Sloan in 1973.
Alma was an elementary school teacher at Clinton Public Schools until her retirement in 1976. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Creighton, Missouri and was also a member of Creighton Saturday Club and did many volunteer activities. Alma will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and aunt. She had lived in Creighton before moving to Wichita in September 2008 to be near her daughter, Susan.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Bruce L. Still; her second husband, Samuel A. Sloan; her son, Billy Joe Still; a granddaughter, DeAnn Wehmeyer; a brother, James T. Shelten; a sister, Rachel O'Bannon.
Alma is survived by her daughter, Susan K. Ritter (Jim) of Bel Aire, KS, stepsons, Samuel A. Sloan (Jan) Windsor, Missouri, Daryl Sloan (Millie) Creighton, Missouri and Gary Sloan (Marilyn) Urich, Missouri; grandchildren Sean M. Ritter (Tara), Scott A. Ritter (Erica) and 8 step grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, MO with burial in the Grant Cemetery near Creighton.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the funeral home.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Creighton, Missouri.
