Jacobina Kruse was born in Ostfriesland Germany on January 30th, 1865 and in the year 1892 she came with her uncle to Clay County, Nebraska, to the home of her sister, Mrs. John Lindeman. In January, 1893 she came to Culbertson, Nebraska. On January 13, 1893, she was united in marriage to Benjamin Bley in the German Baptist church in Culbertson. To this union were born six children. One child died in infancy. She was converted early in life, taking the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and followed Him in baptism at that time. Mrs. Bley was a devoted mother to her children and a true faithful helpmate to her husband through all of the hardships of an early pioneer life in southwestern Nebraska. Her parents, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Mother Bley rejoiced to see her children all converted, and many a servant of God found shelter and help in her humble home. She suffered much pain and sickness through her life, but her testimony even of late was: Yes, the Lord has been good to me. She left this earthly house of clay to be with the Lord, whom she loved and served, on the morning of April 9th, 1938 at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 10 days. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and five children; Jacob Bley and family of Wauneta; Adolph Bley and family of Palisade; Louie, Anna, and Bertina of Stratton, Nebraska; four nieces and six nephews and a host of friends and neighbors. Mother dear, thou hast been faithful unto the end and thy reward will follow thee. We mourn, but not as those who have no hope, for our Hope is in the blessed Lord Christ Jesus and the Righteous, who came to a world of sin to die for our sins on the cross; to redeem us from the curse and the bondage of sin, and to give us a home with Him forever. Blessed be His Name forever.

Funeral services were held from the Eden Church for Mrs. Benjamin Bley on Monday afternoon [April 11] with Rev. Waldo Schindler in charge, and all that remained mortal of this noble mother was laid to rest in the Eden cemetery. A mother who lived after the spiritual needs of her family as well as the physical has left behind a beautiful heritage.

Those who bore her casket to its place were her three sons, Jacob, Adolph, and Louis Bley, three nephews, Clarence Matticks, Henry and Jake Lindeman. Those who sang were Ralph Carpenter, Melvin Judd, Elmer Egle and Ellis Carpenter.

Relatives from away were Henry and Jake Lindeman, Reka Valentine and Anna Dunkel from Clay Center, Herman and John Lindeman from Hastings and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Matticks from Stratton.
