Bertina Bley, youngest daughter of Benjamin and Jacobina Bley, was born in Hayes County, north of Palisade, NE, on Dec. 21, 1905. As a young girl in 1917 she moved with her parents and family to the farm in the Eden precinct, where she enjoyed her garden and the good farm life. She loved animals and had a name for most of them.

She was a member of the Eden Missionary Church for many years. She served as Sunday School secretary for several years.

Bertina loved the children, and was always happy when they would come see her.

Due to declining health, she left the farm and moved to the McCook Townhouse. From there she moved to the Heritage of Wauneta. Following a few years of ill health, she passed away at the Chase County Hospital in Imperial Thursday, Nov. 10, 1988 at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 10 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Anna; three brothers, Louie, Adolph and an infant brother. She leaves to mourn her passing one brother, Jacob Bley of Wauneta; a sister-in-law Bula Bley of Belding, Micfh.; four nephews and their families, Herman /Bley and Alvin Bley, both of Palisade, and Ervin Bley and Raymond Bley, both of Wauneta; two nieces and their families, Mrs. Herman Rulla of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Mrs. DeLayne Hirschy of Belding, Mich., and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 13 at the Eden Missionary Church with Rev. Tim Bauer and Rev. Lloyd Bley officiating. Mrs. DeLayne Hirschy provided organ music and Mrs. Arlan Wine provided piano accompaniment for singers, Mrs. Herman Bley, Mrs. Raymond Bley and Arlan Wine. Selections chosen were "What A Day That Will Be" and "Some Golden Day Break." Pallbearers were Roger Maris, Lavern Bley, Warrren Harrison, Mike Bley, Ronald Bley and DeLayne Hirschy. She was buried in the Eden Cemetery.

Most of her life was spent on the farm.
Her flowers and garden held her with charm.
She tended her chickens with great delight
And put her kittens to bed each night.
She named her kittens and could tell you on what day they were born,
If one would be missing, oh how she would mourn.
In summertime she would have her hoe
Carrying it with her almost everywhere she'd go.
An old sunbonnet wreathed her face
To keep old Sol in his place.
She had a keen mathematician's mind
Knowing when farm prices would rise or decline.
She kept her books with infinite care
And enjoyed church secretarial work with a talent rare.
Her back was stooped with all her work,
But she kept on going and didn't shirk.
Until her health wouldn't let her stay
So she moved to McCook to a different way.
She enjoyed her life as a city gal
And found new friends to be her pals.
One of her delights was the bingo game
Where her many friends enjoyed the same.
Her last home was in Wauneta in the Heritage Home
Where she found new acquaintances and others she had known.
In her last days, she was patient and kind
Altho suffering, she was never demanding nor out of line.
She will be missed with he sweet smile.
We hope to meet her after awhile.
