Helen Isabel (Graves) Hawkins, daughter of Nathan E. and Mary (Dittrich) Graves, was born July 18, 1914 at Tilden, Nebraska. Helen died Monday, June 4, 2012, at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Helen attended Grant Public School and Sacred Heart School in Norfolk, and later graduated from St. Mary's Academy in O'Neill, Nebraska, in 1932. On October 5, 1933, she was married to Chester A. Hawkins in Tilden. The couple farmed north of Tilden from 1934 until retiring into Tilden in 1974.

During her lifetime, Helen worked at the Tilden Theater and also for Rethwisch Shoe Store. She assisted her husband as the manager of the Tilden Legion Club for 14 years. Helen was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tilden and its Altar Society. She was a Gold Star Sister of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 170 for over 60 years.

Helen is survived by: daughter, Deanna (James) Hamling of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Shirley Hawkins of Omaha, Nebraska 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Chester "Chet" Hawkins on November 10, 2001; infant daughter; three grandchildren; four brothers; four sisters; son, Delbert "Del" Hawkins; and daughter, Carole McCormick.

Burial was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tilden, NE.
