My Great Grandfather Gillespie

Henry was the son of Greenlee Gillespie and Susan Lewis. He married Josephine Texas Gillespie in 1878 and together they had 7 children. Lou Gillespie, Infant Son Gillespie, Cora Gillespie, Zora Gillespie, Maude Lola Gillespie-Gaydon, Jones Onest Gillespie, and Mamie Gillespie-Melton. After Joesphine's death he remarried and had more children.
Grandpa Gillespie was basically a Cotton Farmer but he did leave the farm on several occassions to try other things. He moved his family to Gainesville Ga in the early 1900s to work in a Textile Mill that had opened there. He followed his daughter Maude to Easley SC around 1917 and ran an Ice House there for some time. My Mom has many memories of those years. Later in life he joined his brother David who worked at the Parks Dept.in Atlanta Ga. He was on the payroll there at the time of his death.
The pictures at the right were made on the Cotton Farm in GA...One of him in the Cotton Field. Theres another picture, of his graveside service. There's captions with all the pictures. Click to view all photos and click on pictures to read the captions.
I wish I could have know him. From all I have heard he was a loving family man.
When I was a little bitty baby, my Mama would rock me in my cradle, in them old cotton fields back home !!!!
My Grandmother use to sing this song.
Henry's 2nd wife was Lola A. They had another family. Willard, Ressie Mae, Gleaner and Eva and the baby daughter Clara. I am also adding them to FindAGrave.
My Grandmother and all her siblings had nothing but great things to say about their stepmom. They say she was good to them. My Mama and my Aunt Barbara both told me Lola was a wonderful grandmother to all of them.
THANKS TO ALL WHO LEAVE FLOWERS. YOUR THOUGHTFULNESS IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.....
Blessings !!!

PLEASE LEAVE A FLOWER FOR MY DEAR GRANDMOTHER
