She was born on February 20, 1909 in Fairmount, the daughter of Glenn and Carrie Bookout.
She graduated from Greentown High School in 1927 and the International Business College of Ft. Wayne. Ruth worked at Murray Jewelers for many years with her husband, Robert O. Murray. Ruth and Robert were married in 1938 and enjoyed many wonderful years together.
She was a member of Hazelwood Christian Church since 1953, where she was involved with many church activities.
Survivors include her sister, Lola Green; her grandchildren, Ronald Murray, Steven Murray, and Todd Murray; her nieces, Nancy Bookout, Martha Jackson, Sherrie Geyer and Brenda Easton; her nephews, Harold Buffum, David Buffum, Ronny Buffum, Robert Bookout, Gary Bookout, and David Foltz; also surviving are many other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1972; two step-sons; two brothers; and five sisters.
Services will be 3 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Colby Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.
