Mr. Pearce was born in Norfolk. He retired from NAVISTAR after more than 30 years and was a member of United Auto Workers, Local (NU)6, Chicago. He was the widower of Shirley Prentice Pearce.
Survivors include a son, John Roy Pearce and his fiancee Gloria Owen, both of Lockport, Ill.; four sisters, Hazel Wagner of Chesapeake, Elsie Humphrey and Rheba Modlin, both of Virginia Beach, and Thelma Davis of Richmond; two brothers, Paul H. Pearce and Wade L. Pearce, both of Norfolk; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucy W. Pearce and Wade Hampton Pearce.
A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Russell G. Flaxman. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
