Ephraim L. Adams, 265 West Pomfret Street, former Cumberland County sheriff and owner of the Adams Outdoor Advertising in Carlisle for many years, died yesterday afternoon in the Carlisle Hospital.
He was born in Perry County, a son of the late Wilson and Belle Kennedy Adams, and lived most of his life in Carlisle.
A Democrat, he served as sheriff of Cumberland County from 1918 to 1921 and owned the Adams advertising business here for many years before selling in 1960 to Penn-Adams Advertising, York. He was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church.
He also served as chief probation officer for many years under the late Judge Fred S. Reese.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Ritter Adams; four brothers; Thomas A., a twin brother; Arthur E., Kenneth M., and Robert B., all of Carlisle; and two sisters, Miss Edna C. Adams and Mrs. Keller McCord, both of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 South Hanover Street. The Rev. John G. Hilton, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Westminster Cemetery.
There will be no viewing. It is requested that flowers be omitted.
