Cumberland Times, Cumberland, Maryland, Sunday 30 Mar 1947: "LONACONING Mar 29-John Martin Barry, 74, retired coal miner, died this morning, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Logsdon, 18 Front Street, with whom he resided. He had been in failing health some time. Familiarly known as "Commodore", he was a native and lifelong resident of Lonaconing. His parents were the late Patrick and Mary (Conley) (sic) Barry. He served as an official of the U.M.W. and was affiliated with the Democratic party. Mr. Barry belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Holy Name. Besides Mrs. Logsdon, he is survived by three other children, Earl Barry, Frostburg; Mrs. Hazel Gundlock, Weston, W. Va., and Mrs. Rose Scott, Turtle Creek, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Rooney, Frostburg, Mrs. Mary Mills, Cumberland, and Mrs. Catherine Spitzer, Baltimore and 14 grandchildren. A requiem mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery."
