With the passing of the old year came the death and burial of another pioneer woman, Mrs. Paulina Clark who for many years had been a resident of Hastings but for the past year has been with her daughter Anna Clark of Council Bluffs. Following are a few facts concerning the life of this good woman who was the wife of the late Lorenzo Dan Clark more familiarly known as Daddy Clark.

Paulina Elizabeth Clark was born at Georgetown, Indiana on December 11, 1841 and departed from this life at the home of her daughter, Anna Clark at Council Bluffs on December 29, 1922. The deceased was united in marriage to Lorenzo Dan Clark at Colechester, Illinois on January 1, 1860.

To this union were born five children, all of whom are left to mourn the death of their mother. The sons are James, Nick and John Clark, all residents of Hastings. The daughters are Mrs. Sarah Van Arsdale [Arsdall] and Mrs. Anna Clark both of Council Bluffs.

The father and husband proceeded the mother in death just two years, having passed away on December 23, 1920 and was buried on Christmas Day of that year. Besides the sons and daughter, there are left several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Clark united with the first Christian Church, here at Hastings many years ago and later joined the Methodist Church of this place. The body was brought to Hastings Sunday and funeral services were held at the Methodist Church. Burial was made in the Hastings Cemetery. Those who accompanied the body here were Mrs. Sarah Van Arsdale [Arsdall], Anna Clark and daughter Helene, Luther Clark, Harry Clark and Flossie Clark all of Council Bluffs.
