Glenwood [Iowa] Opinion, 30 Dec 1920:
AGED HASTINGS RESIDENT DIES
"Daddy" Clark Answered Death's Call —
Funeral Services Held Christmas Day.
HASTINGS, December 27th:

The following life sketch was given at the funeral of Mr. Clark which was held on Christmas day:

Lorenzo Dow Clark was born in the state of Ohio on December 7th, 1837, and died at his home in Hastings, December 23rd, 1920, having just passed his 83rd milestone.

In early childhood he came to Illinois where he was married on Jan. 1, 1859 [1860] to Miss Elizabeth Watts with whom he had tread the pathway of life and shared the experiences of adversity and prosperity for over 60 years. Five children were born into this home, all of whom are living, and by frequent visits to the old home have been able to make the declining days of "Daddy" Clark happy and bright.

Mr. Clark came to Hastings 46 years ago last November and had made this place his home more than one half of the time since first settling here. He lived in the west several years and spent some time in Illinois. He was the oldest of his own immediate family and the last to answer the death summons. All of his brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Another remarkable feature of his passing is that it is the first time death has entered the home since it was established over 60 years ago.

Besides his beloved companion, Mrs. Elizabeth Clark, his five children, Mrs. Sarah VanArsdale [Van Arsdall] of Council Bluffs, Nicholas, John, James and Anna all of Hastings, Iowa, and his grandchildren, he has left a host of friends to mourn his passing who will miss his congenial smile and happy greeting.
