We were startled Saturday afternoon by the announcement of the sudden death of one of our oldest citizens, Mr. James Arnold. The bereaved wife, daughters and sons have the fullest sympathy of all our people. Mr. Arnold has not been very strong for some time. Mr. Arnold, with his brother Frank, was putting lath on Miss Emma Lish's house. About 3 p. m. Frank heard him groan. He hurried to him, but when he reached him, he was dead. Mr. Arnold was nearly 55 years of age. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Assembly Hall, by Rev. Geo. Kepler, after which the remains were followed by a number of sympathizing friends to the cemetery near Oakland. (Transcribed by Ronn E. Friend, 2x great-nephew)
