Egbert Offrien "Ed" Gritters, 78, of Hull, IA, died on Sunday, April 25, 1993, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Services were held on Thursday, April 29, 1993, at Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull, the Reverend Aldon Kuipcr officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Kraai-Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Mr. Gritters was born on July 15, 1914, at Hull, the son of Egbert J. and Albertje (Smidt) Gritters. He was raised in Hull, where he was baptized at the First Christian Reformed Church.

On May 5, 1933, he married Wilemina "Wilma" Mulder at Sioux Center. The couple farmed at Hull, Sheldon, Rock Valley and Ireton. In 1953, they moved into Hull, where he owned and operated Gritters Insurance, retiring in 1979.

He also was a bus driver for the Boyden-Hull Community Schools for many years.

They became residents of Pleasant Acres in January of 1993. Mrs. Gritters died on March 7, 1993, at Sioux Center.

Mr. Gritters was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as an elder; had also been an elder at the Protestant Reformed Churches at Sioux Center and Hull; and was a member of the board of directors of the Sioux County Council on Aging.

Survivors include two sons, Egbert Matthew and his wife, Henrietta, of Hull, and Lyle Albert and his wife, Muriel, of Sioux Center; 14 grandchildren, Brian, Loren, Marvin, Rhonda, Susan, Valerie, Sharla, Lyndon and Lance Gritters, and Roxanne Terpstra, Brenda Regnerus, Lynctte Eckhoff, Lisa Van Roekel, and Laurel Kooiman; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Delia Hulstein of Edgerton, MN.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Larry; and five brothers, John, Ralph, Ben, Martin and Herman.
