Adkins dies
Lawrence "Sam" Eggleston Adkins, 70, of 436 Ferndale Drive, Collinsville, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Wake Forest University Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Adkins was owner and operator of Sam Adkins Home Builders for 50 years.
He was born in Patrick County on Dec. 28, 1932, a son of the late Thomas Everett Adkins and Sally Eggleston Adkins. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendall Adkins and Herbert Adkins.
He was reared in Fieldale. he had been a member of Fort Trial Christian Church for 45 years and served as a trustee and deacon, and he was a member of the Henry County Board of Appeals.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Marie D. Adkins of the home; one daughter, Pam Fulton of Richmond; two sons, Stephen Adkins of Collinsville and Jeff Adkins of Martinsville; one sister, Ruth Price of Collinsville; three brothers, John Adkins of Collinsville, David Adkins of Fieldale and Bill Adkins of Collinsville; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Trial Christian Church by Minister Marshall McCrickard. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today at the church and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to The Piano Fund, Fort Trial Christian Church, 6356 Virginia Ave., Bassett, Va. 24055.
