JOHN G. ADKINS

John G. Adkins, age 91, of Collinsville, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

Born in Stuart, Va., on September 7, 1922, he was a son of the late Thomas E. Adkins and Sally Eggleston Adkins.

Also preceding him in death were six brothers, Derwood, Wendell, Hub, Dave, Bill and Sam; a sister, Ruth Price.

John was a member of Fieldale Baptist Church and served on the Board of Deacons and was a Trustee for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II having served in Europe and was in the D Day invasion of Normandy. John is survived by his wife Christine; his son Ricky and wife Sharon; and a special little dog Buddy, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three sisters-in-law, Marie Adkins, Margaret Adkins and Lee Adkins; and several very special nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Fieldale Baptist Church with the Rev. Stewart Childress officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery with full military rites by the Martinsville and Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fieldale Baptist Church, P.O. Box 98, Fieldale, Va. 24089 or a charity of the donor's choice.
