YORK - Francis S. Hershberger, 82, died at 2:55 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Manor Care-North in York. He was the husband of Edith R. (Glatfelter) Hershberger. The couple would have been married 63 years on June 21, 2004.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with his pastor, the Rev. Daniel V. Biles III, officiating. Viewing will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Hershberger was born September 2, 1921, in York, a son of the late Joseph C. and Margie A. (Zeigler) Hershberger.
He was a 1939 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and retired in 1984 as Manager of Customer Service from Motter Printing Press in York, where he was employed for 44 years.
Mr. Hershberger was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. He was a 30 year member and past president of the Lincolnway Lions Club in West York and a 40 year member of the York Industrial Management Club. He was a life member of the Lincolnway and Nashville Fire Companies, the Spring Grove Friendship Hose Company, and a member of the York County Fireman's Association. He was active in the Spring Grove Area Historical & Preservation Society, the Spring Grove Senior Citizens, and the West York AARP #1578. Francis served his country as a United States Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Hershberger also leaves two sons, Larry F. Hershberger and Donald A. Hershberger both of York; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Shaffer and Jeanette Klinedinst both of York.
He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter; a brother; and a sister.
