Erik Ferdinand Wallgren was born on May 29, 1840 in Attersta, Gallersta, Orebro, Sweden, the son of Lars Erik and Lovisa (Jonsdotter) Wallgren. The family moved to Vissbo kvarn, Lerback parish, Sweden in 1854. He moved to Arboga city in 1860. He then moved to Kyrkbacken, Ljusnarsbergs parish, July 17, 1862.

Erik emigrated to America, arriving on November 6, 1878. He left Liverpool, England and then Queenstown, Ireland on the ship Algeria and landed in New York, NY. He apparently went directly to Chicago.

Erik was in Chicago in 1878 because he married Ida Qvarfot in Chicago on December 31, 1878. They had one daughter, Olga, on May 4, 1879 while in Chicago. They then had a second daughter, Anna in Chicago. Erik was in Cook County for the 1880 US Census. Then, they moved to Ishpeming, MI where he was a miner. They had two daughters while there, Huldah and Agnes.

Erik died March 16, 1889, from heart disease (or possibly pneumonia).
