Ruth Amdahl, age 83, formerly of Summit, SD passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Milbank, SD. Funeral services were Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Summit. Interment was in the Ortley Cemetery, Ortley, SD.
Pallbearers will be Arvid Amdahl, Jamie Amdahl, Ashley Amdahl, Marlin Snell, Justin Amdahl and Rory Amdahl.
Honorary Pallbearers are Charter members of the Francis Wayne Auxiliary #5022 VFW of Summit.
Jeanette Ruth Hjellming was born on January 29, 1927 to Alfred and Aldora (Larson) Hjellming on her parents farm near Ortley, South Dakota. She was baptized at Ortley Methodist Church and Confirmed into the Lutheran faith on March 3, 1941.
On January 8, 1944 she married Dale Percy Amdahl at Webster, South Dakota. The couple lived in the communities of Ortley, Summit, Marvin, Vivian, Harrisburg, Watertown, Sioux Falls and Milbank, SD. Ruth enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. She truly loved dancing, gardening, canning and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth Amdahl was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Summit, SD and was a Charter member of the Francis Wayne Auxiliary #5022 VFW of Summit.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Aldora, step-father Ralph Bryngelson, husband Dale, two sons Jerry and Gary Amdahl, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister and three brothers.
Ruth is survived by her children: Sharon (Virgil) Snell of Milbank, Leon (Della) Amdahl of Woonsocket, Leslie (Cindy) Amdahl of Barney, ND, Linda (Galen) Bauman of Watertown, Shelly (Arlo) Anderson of Summit, Kevin (Lori) Amdahl and Terry (Terrence Carreon) Amdahl all of Sioux Falls; daughter-in-law Eunice Amdahl of Summit; two sisters, Maythol Pischke of Webster and Darlene (Darold) Davis of Wilmot; two step-sisters, Bernice (George) Folk of and Evelyn (Virgil) Dittes of Milbank; one sister-in-law, Hazelle Larson of Watertown; a step-brother, Berdelle (Barbara) Bryngelson of Marshaltown, IA; two brothers-in-law, Richard Amdahl of Mitchell, and Duane Snell of Oviedo, FL; 26 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
