Mr. Cooper was a 40-year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 157, retiring in 1986. He also taught in the apprenticeship program with Local 157. He attended St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort. He served in the Navy during World War II. An avid fisherman, he won grand champion in 1976 in the Big Fish Contest for the State of Indiana. He was a former member of Elks Lodge in Lafayette, a member of Frankfort Elks Lodge and Friends of the Public Library in Frankfort.
Surviving are two sons, Tom Cooper and Tyler Cooper, both of Lafayette; two daughters, Melinda (Mrs. Steve) Molter of Delphi and Darla (Mrs. Todd) Mansfield of Lafayette; a stepson, Brad Dellinger of Frankfort; a stepdaughter, Stacy Dellinger of Portland, OR; and a nephew who grew up in his home, Bob Cooper of California. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; preceded in death by a granddaughter, three brothers, and two sisters. Service Hippensteel Chapel, Oct. 28, the Rev. Donald Weaver officiating; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
