Splendid Citizen Dies on Wednesday Night
Mr. Alva R. Walker Dies at Home of Brother Near Pennington
On Wednesday night, at the home of his brother, Mr. Lit H. Walker, near Pennington occurred the death of Mr. Alva Reid (sic) Walker.
For some months, he had been in fast failing health, having for a long time been suffering from Brights's disease. His end came as no surprise, as his condition had been critical for several days.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Seaborn Walker, pioneer and prominent citizens of the southern part of Morgan County. He was born in April, 1972, and he died June 7, 1933, being 61 years of age.
In early young manhood, he was married to Mrs. Gus Collier, who died a few years later. To them was born one daughter, who survives him.
He was engaged in farming and dairying until his health gave way, and was a man of sterling character and had a wide circle of friends in Morgan and Jasper counties.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Estelle Jackson of Vidalia, and four brothers, Messrs. Isaac, L.H., Evan and Will Walker, all of Morgan County. A brother John and two sisters, Miss Amma R. Walker and Mrs. Minna Reid, preceded him in death several years ago.
Funeral services were held from the home at 4:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. Scott Patterson, and interment was in the old Walker family burying ground nearby. A large concourse of friends attended.
Hemperley Undertaking Co. was in charge.
