Helen R. Powers, 83 of McHenry, died Thursday, January 27, 2000 at Memorial Hospital, Woodstock. Born April 28, 1916 in Elgin, IL, the daughter of Albert and Grace (Shimp) Sommers. On June 25, 1937 she married George Powers. Member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, McHenry.

Survived by Robert (Barbara) Powers of McHenry, Gerald (Mary) Powers of Elgin, Linda (Larry) Rice of Woodstock, Donna (Ken) Jensen of Woodstock, Rita (Enn) Rehaste of Orange, CA and Cynthia (James) Sweeney of Blaine, MN; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, James Sommers of Twin Lakes, WI; sisters, Doris Cominsky and Mary Singleton of Elgin. Also, surviving is a a daughter-in-law, Sandra D'Orazio.

Preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Richard; grandson, William Rice; parents; brother Erwin Sommers; sisters, Mildred Powers and Kay Seyller.

Visitation on Sunday, January 30, 2000 at the Peter M. Justen Colonial Funeral Home, 3807 W. Elm St., McHenry from 3-8 PM. Services on Monday, January 31, 2000 at 11 AM at St. Patrick Church, 3500 Washington St., McHenry with the Rev. James McKitrick. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock. Memorials to Hospices of NE Illinois, 410 S. Hager Ave., Barrington, IL or to St. Patrick Church.
