The Franklin Press, May 11, 1978:

Gordon Hobert Gibson, 62, of the Patton Community, died Saturday in a Franklin hospital following a period of declining health.

A native of Macon County, he was a builder and also a member of Junaluska Masonic Lodge No. 145 AF & AM. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late Ben and Dollie Jennings Gibson.

He is survived by the wife, Virginia Swanson Gibson; a son, John Gordon Gibson of the home; five stepchildren; three brothers, Wymer and John B Gibson of Franklin and Charlie Gibson of Andrews; three sisters, Ethel Gibson, Mrs. Lex Angel and Mrs. Fred Angel of Franklin; and four step-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mashburn Branch Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. L.E. Angel officiated. Pallbearers were Bob and Lex Gibson, Harold Kimsey, Ronnie Owens, Doug Ledford, Doug Angel, Jack Angel, Max Ledbetter. Burial was in Sugar Fork Baptist Cemetery. Graveside rites were conducted by Junaluska Masonic Lodge.
