Alvenia F. Smashey, 91, of Hannibal, died at 10:11 PM Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, April 23, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Wallace Smashey will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until time of service Monday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smashey was born February 13, 1921, in Hannibal to Hurley and Sylvia Deverger Brown.
She was first married to Hiram Darr. She then married Russell Smashey in 1941. He preceded her in death March 12, 1995.
Survivors include: One son: Ron Darr of Hannibal, One daughter: Alvenia Richmiller (Ron) of Mendon, IL. Six Grandchildren: Brad Darr of Charleston, IL., Jeffery Darr (Jane) of Hannibal, Michael Darr (Lisa) of Hannibal, Tonya Richmiller of Mendon, IL., John Richmiller (Olga) of Springfield, IL., Gayla Richmiller of Mendon, IL. Eight Great-Grandchildren, Four Great Great-Grandchildren. Two sisters: Mary Poling, and Margaret Spegal. One brother: Hurley Brown, Jr. all of Hannibal. And numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smashey was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Hattie Todd, and three brothers, Walter, Loren, and Gail Brown.
Alvenia truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many satisfying hours working in her flower gardens. She had previously been employed at Woolworths, Motorola and Becky Thatcher Book Store. She was loved by all and will be sorely missed. Mrs. Smashey was a Christian by faith.
