Paulina Klenk was the 7th child born to Georg Albrecht Klenk and Christina Barbara Scholl. She was born on August 23,1864, in Grab, Württemberg, Germany, a small village north of Murrhardt. Her birth was recorded as Paulina Klenk, however, she went by Pauline.
.
Pauline was 18 years old when she came to the United States from Germany. She taught herself to read and write English. Pauline had two siblings who immigrated to the United States. Her sister, Christina Catharina Klenk, married Johann Jacob Schreier, and lived across the road from them. Pauline's brother, Friedrich Michael Klenk, settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and married Maria (Mary) Boss.

Family lore has it that Pauline did not know her future husband, Karl Kugler, in Germany. After arriving in the US she worked in Detroit taking care of children. She heard of a German settlement in Brutus, Maple River Twp, (Emmet County) Michigan, and moved there, which is where she met Karl Kugler. However, there is a passenger ship record with a Pauline Klenk and a Carl Kugler arriving in New York on June 5, 1883, on the same ship, the US Main. And in Germany, Pauline's half sister married Karl's brother. Therefore, it seems the families did know each other.

Pauline and Karl were married on October 5,1885, in Petoskey, (Emmet County) Michigan. Pauline and Karl had 11 children, all born at home on their farm in Brutus.

After Karl died in 1924, Pauline eventually left the farm (possibly in the middle 1930's) to live with her youngest daughter, Ann, in Pontiac, (Oakland County) Michigan. She lived with Ann until her death of a cerebral vascular accident, at age 96, on January 7,1961. The stroke was due to arteriosclerosis.

Pauline was a woman who read from her bible daily. She was kind, gentle and a very hard worker. However, in her later years of life, she was blind and could not hear. Pauline is buried next to her husband Karl, in the Maple River Township Cemetery, in Brutus, along with several of their children.
