Ella Bader was born 28 Nov 1898 to Christian and Anna Horn Bader on the homestead in SW 1/4 sec SEc 14 Kellogg Twp, Virgil, SD. She spent her entire life on the homestead. She attended the Kuehl School near the homestead. Her mother Anna died when she was 11 years old. She helped her father and Aunt Lydia to raise the other children. Ella went to Cleveland, Ohio and attended the York NB College in 1914 and then spent one year with the relatives in the Cleveland, Ohio area. When she returned to the farmstead, she spent the rest of her life on the family farm. She kept house for her two bachelor brothers, Gus and Vic. She enjoyed raising lots of poultry and grew a large garden each year. She did lots of canning from her garden and from the fruit trees that her brother Gus had planted on the family place. Her brothers took her eggs and the cream to town to sell them for her.
Ella died of cancer on March 3, 1979.
