Along with neighborhood children they spent many hours hunting, fishing, and skating on Sand Creek. As a young man he worked in the Black Hills making alfalfa hay and digging ditches.
Christian met Frances Salisbury at a dance in Wolsey, SD. They were married November 28, 1934. They made their home in NE 1/4 Sec and Kellogg Township. They started farming with horses, eight milk cows borrowed from his brother, a few chickens and hogs. When the horses died from sleeping sickness they bought a tractor. On Feb 22, 1943 they moved across Sand Creek to their present home site on NW 1/4 Sec 22.
On one trip into town to take cream to the creamery, Christian's car stopped on the railroad track and was hit by the train. Christian was able to get out before the train hit. Christian spent many years milking cows and farming. Later when his son was old enough to help in the field, he did and when Darrell graduated from high school and completed his National Guard training, he went into farming full time with his father.
Christian served on the Virgil Co-op Elevator Board for 25 years and was also a township board member for 25 years. He was a member of the United Methodis Church in Virgil, SD.
They always made their home on a farm near Virgil until he suffered a stroke and entered the Huron Nursing Home on February 17, 1988. He passed away on March 7, 1988 at the Huron Nursing Home at the age of 84.
He is survived by one son and daughter in law Darrell and Arlys Bader of Virgil, one daughter Deanna Bader of Garland, TX; five grandchildren, Brad, Marsha, and Steven Bader of Virgil, and Troy
and Michael Bader of Garland, TX; one brother, Victor Bader of Virgil, and one sister, Ida Connelly of Torrington WY.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances-January 30, 1988, two infant daughters, Luella and Luann Bader, his parents, one brother, Gustave Bader,and one sister Ella Bader.
