Betty Gene Lewis McVey passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012 in her home in Spanish Fork, Utah. She was born April 14, 1923 in Elko, Nevada to Preston and Josephine Alzina Hutchinson Lewis.
Betty spent the first 11 years of her life in a mining camp at Spruce Mountain, Nevada. The family moved to Elko in 1934 where she attended high school. She married Chester McVey on November 3, 1940 in Elko. They lived in Ely, Nevada and then Kimberly, Nevada before moving to Spanish Fork. They lived in Spanish Fork the rest of their lives except for two years in Cedar City.
They were sealed in the St. George Temple. They were the parents of six children: Jo Ann (Vern J. Okelberry), Douglas John (Mary Beth), Marilyn Virginia (Frank Burton), Samuel David (Connie), Becky Jean (Terry McKenzie), and Daniel Bruce.
Betty was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions and was known for her dependability, hard work and willingness to learn. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother as well as mothering many nieces and nephews and neighborhood kids. She loved to do genealogy, sew, quilt, cook, read, and make a wonderful home. She loved her family and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Douglas John # 12381689, her sisters Alice Lorene # 16441930, Mary Josephine Delaney #77834579, and Anita Van Slochteren and her brothers Douglas Keith # 12500253 and Guy Preston # 16391451. Her brother Richard Neil Lewis survives her.
There will be a viewing Thursday, April 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Walker Family Mortuary, 187 South Main St. in Spanish Fork. Funeral services will be Friday, April 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel, 585 North Main St. in Spanish Fork. A viewing will be held before at 9 a.m.
