Clarence Nichols dies at 82

Clarence L. Nichols, 82, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Parkview Care Center where was a resident.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert McReynolds officiating. Interment will be in Glasgow Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 8 p.m.

Clarence L. Nichols was born June 14, 1898, at Mount Sterling. He was the son of William Henry and Maude Hughes Nichols and was reared and educated in Van Buren County.

He was married to Ruby Rosenberger Feb. 26, 1924. She preceded him in death in 1951. He was later married to Hazel Kane Manley Jan. 7, 1955, in Batavia. She survives.

Nichols was a resident of the Glasgow Community for a number of years, moved to Lockridge in 1971 and later to Fairfield.

He was employed at the Cable Lumber Co. for 23 years before his retirement. Mr. and Mrs. Nichols were resident caretakers and cooks at the Fairfield Women’s Club for six years. Nichols was a member of the Fairfield Friends Church.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by three children, Gerald Nichols, Lockridge; Kathleen Brooks, Galva, Ill.; and Hillis Nichols, Belfast, Main; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and a number of step-great-grandchildren.

Also two brothers, Henry Nichols, Mount Pleasant and Herschel Nichols, Kahoka, Mo.
