The Captain Albright Deibler Company of the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 4th Regiment, under command of Colonel James Burd served for about a year from 1776 to 1777. They were part of the Continental Army that were badly defeated in the Battle of Long Island in August 1776. It was thought that Capt. Deibler was either killed on 27 August or taken prisoner at that time. He never returned home. His widow, Anna Catharine Shupp Deibler received a letter of administration 9 June 1777.

However, thanks to information from Deborah Hoffman Weiner and other additional research, we now believe it is likely that Capt. Deibler survived the Battle of Long Island, only to be killed during the battle of the Reduction of Fort Washington on 16 November 1776. In an inventory of equipment losses from this battle in Kelker's History of Dauphin County, Volume 2, pages 881-882, we find the following entry about Albright Diveler and his widow hinting that this is the battle in which he died:

I do hereby certify that the Losses herein mentioned were sustained on the 16th Novr., 1776, at the Reduction of Fort Washington. Given under my hand this 8th Day of August, 1777. /s/ James Cowden, Capt.

Belonging to Captain Murray's Com.

Soldier name: Albright Diveler
Guns, £-s-d: 5-5-0
Pouches & Horns, £-s-d: 0-7-6

Widow Diveler to repair of George Coopers gun: 60
----------

Albrecht and Catharine had six children (multiple variations for all surnames):
1. Catharina "Kitty", wife of George Bellis (Bealis)
2. Susanna, wife of Johan Christian Hoffman
3. Daniel, husband of Anna Maria Fissel
4. Christina, wife of John Hoffman
5. Mary Magdelena "Molly", wife of Andrew Harter
6. Johannes George, husband of Barbara Garman

His widow Catharine married Benjamin Buffington and had 5 more children.

In 1773 Albrecht took possession of 336 Acres of land in Upper Paxton Township, Lancaster County, now Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He named it "Horn Pipe".

Even though it is unknown where Captain Albrecht Deibler was buried, it is likely he was one of the 11,000 who were buried in shallow graves along the East River as he fought and died alongside these American Patriots.
