Elizabeth (WHITTEN) LENFAST. The family name was originally spelled LENFESTE.
The great-grandfather was conscripted into the British forces in 1812 from
his home on the Isle of Guernsey. He jumped overboard and swam to America
when the ship got close to shore. His son, Peter LENFEST, a farmer in
Washington Township, ME, married Margaret CAMPBELL, a Scotchwoman and they had 13 children.
The eldest was Daniel LENFEST, who removed to Clay County NE.
When Daniel died, about 1881, his son, Lee R. LENFEST devoted himself to the
care of his mother and sister.
The family came to CA in 1905 and settled in San Jose in 1913.
On Sept 6 1883, in Clay County NE, Mr. LENFEST was united in marriage to
Miss Lillie E. SLAWSON, native of McHenry County IL, daughter of Henry H.
and Polly (LAKE) SLAWSON.
