Lucy E Lenfest

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., March 22, 1947, in the chapel of the Edward E Nienaus Company for Miss Lucy E. Lenfest, who passed away Wednesday. March 19, 1947, at her apartment, 2001 Haste St.. Berkeley, California.

In her eighties, Miss Lenfest was a member of the Begonia Society and of several garden groups and until the last few months made weekly excursions to Golden Gate Park where she loved to walk among the flowers and trees. She came to Berkeley 36 years ago from Nebraska with the late Mrs. Blanche English, who passed away two years ago. They had been schoolmates there and were friends for many years.

Born in Appleton, Maine, in 1864, Miss Lenfest was a young girl when her family moved to Nebraska and settled on a homestead. The Indians were still active in that section and she could tell many interesting stories of those early sod-house days.

She was a graduate of York Teachers' College and taught for a number of years before coming to Berkeley.

Miss Lenfest was beloved by a large circle of friends. She leaves a cousin, Miss Lela Lenfest of Berkeley and was the aunt of Grace Lenfest of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Blossom Graves and Mrs. Bessie Norman of San Jose; Mrs. Dora Jones of Morgan Hill and Mrs. Nellie Worsley of Burlingame---Berkeley Daily Gazette, Berkeley, California.

The ashes were brought to Edgar Friday, April 4, 1947, and interment was made in the Edgar cemetery (sic) with Rev. S. W. Longacre in charge.

Two ladies, Mrs. E. S. Bottom and Miss Lena Bernhardt, of Edgar attended the committal service Friday. They had also attended the funeral services for Miss Lenfest's father, Daniel Lenfest, in 1878.
