Martha Eugenia Mars, daughter of John A. Mars and the former Miss Martha Eleanor Willis, was born on February 26th 1841.

In 1865, Martha married James Edward "Ned" Caldwell, son of Joseph and Margaret [Wilson] Caldwell of Newberry, South Carolina. They had five children.

Martha Mars Caldwell departed this life on the 1st day of August 1873 at the age 32 years, 5 months and 6 days. Martha was laid to rest in the Mars Family cemetery near her parents.
