Katherine Louise Millyard passed away at Juniper Village in Lamar, Colorado on March 27, 2012. She was 86 years old and died of natural causes.

Katherine was born on April 4, 1925 in Mulvane, Kansas. She was the fourth child born to George N. McElroy and Nellie Ruth Harper – McElroy. Katherine has four brother's William Andrew; Ifred Ray (Deceased); David Dean (Deceased); Franklin D. and three sisters, Etta Nellie; Helen Virginia (Deceased) and Carolyn Rose.

Katherine's family moved from Kansas to the Arkansas Valley in southeast Colorado in 1939. She would remain in the Arkansas Valley for the remainder of her life. Katherine graduated from McClave High School in 1943. She married her high school sweetheart, Earl Hadley Millyard, on October 6, 1946 in Lamar, Colorado following his return from service in the US Navy during World War II.

Katherine raised her family with compassion, conviction, strength, love, and humor. She enjoyed growing a garden and canning a variety of fruits and vegetables. Reading was a life-long passion that brought her comfort and enjoyment in her later life. Katherine was a devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Katherine is survived by her husband, Earl, of Lamar, and four sons, Wayne (Kathy) of Pocatello, Idaho, Jerry of Elizabeth, Colorado, Brian (Peggy) of Lamar, CO.; Robin (Linda) of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

At Katherine's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation. A memorial service is planned for the Spring and interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Lamar, CO.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Lamar Area Hospice P.O. Box 843 Lamar, CO. 81052 either directly or through Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 950 Lamar, CO. 81052.
