Stockwell - Merle H. Skinner, 78, a lifelong resident of this community and a retired farmer, died unexpectedly at his home here at 3 p.m. Monday. He had farmed southwest of Stockwell; and he also had been, for several years, a rural route mail carrier in this area. He was born west of Stockwell and was a graduate of Stockwell schools. Mr. Skinner and his family were honored as the Tippecanoe County Farm Family of the Year last spring. Mr. and Mrs. Skinner and three sons and their wives received the recognition. He was a member of the Methodist Church and of Anchor Lodge F&AM 693 of Stockwell; of the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis; and of Eastern Star Faith Chapter 193 of Clarks Hill. In 1911, in Stockwell, he married Edith Gladden, who survives. Besides the widow, he is survived by four sons, Gladden, William and Byron, all of Rt.11, and Max, of Summit, N.J., and by a brother, Clyde, of Stockwell. Also their are 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Rev. Clyde Wake officiating. Interment in Concord Cemetery. (Lafayette Journal and Courier, Tuesday, November 9, 1965)
