WESLEY A. McANULTY, 85 DIES AT TOLEDO
Lived in Tama County for Seventy-one Years – Long a Resident of Howard Township
Toledo Chronicle – A resident of Tama county for the last seventy-one years, Wesley A. McNulty died at his home in Toledo Friday after a short illness.
Wesley Ayres McAnulty was born in Berks county. Pennsylvania on June 15, 1853, one of a family of fifteen children. In 1857 he came to Iowa with his widowed mother and lived with her on a farm in Howard township. He continued to reside in Howard township until 1894 at which time he moved to Toledo and entered the grocery business. He has been retired for some years prior to his death.
On November 8, 1877 Mr. McAnulty was married to Miss Sarah A. Work They were the parents of one daughter, Ida who is now Mrs. Dragoun, of Ames. Mrs. McAnulty died in 1888, and in 1890 he was married to Miss Mary E. Hill. A daughter, Elsie was born to them.
Mr. McAnulty was a charter member of lodge No. 179 I. O. O. F. of Toledo and had been a member more than half a century, He had been for many years one of the respected members of the community and was commonly known as Wes McAnulty. He is survived by Mrs. McAnulty and their daughter Elsie of Toledo; his daughter Mrs. Fred Dragoun and granddaughter Miss Dorothea Dragoun of Ames, and one brother William together with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon with the Rev. S. A. Fisher, pastor of the United Brethren church in charge. Music included two vocal numbers, “Going Down Valley” and “ O Think of the Home Over There” sung by Mrs. Louise Brown. Pallbearers were Hilton McAnulty, Nelson McAnulty, Louis McAnulty, J. E. Cox, John Wild and H.C. Hunnicutt. Burial was at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
