Mary was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Murphysboro.
She owned rental properties. She also was a homemaker and mother to many, and fed everyone out of her kitchen, where she was considered a cook extraordinaire. Her passion in life was being there for people when they needed her by providing what they needed, whether it be comfort, food, guidance or a best friend.
Mrs. Calandro was a member of St. Andrew Church. She also participated in the Senior Swim Club.
Mary married Paul Andrew Calandro on Sept. 16, 1950, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death April 10, 1997.
Survivors include two children and their spouses, C.J. and Rosemary Calandro of Murphysboro and Mary and Terry Niemiec of Homer Glen; three grandchildren, A.J. Calandro of Murphysboro, Lauren Niemiec of Homer Glen and Dominic Calandro of Murphysboro; one brother and his wife, Robert Wayman and Barbara Qualls of Murphysboro; five sisters-in-law, Josie Romano, Doris Calandro, Henrietta Calandro, Angie Calandro and Dot Calandro; many adored nieces and nephews; and many wonderful, cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by one son, Drew Calandro; her father and stepmother, Clarence and Josie Wayman; five sisters, Ella Belle Moore, Betty Waldron, Norma Childers, Peggy Wayman and Dorothy Farley; and one dear niece, Phyllis Marcy.
The family of Mary Imogene Calandro would like to give a special mention and thanks to all of the professional medical staff for the special care and compassion given to Mary throughout the years.
